It has been a great week in our class!
Picture Day- Don't forget that picture day is this coming Tuesday the 27th. I sent home a picture order form with the kids this week. If you have cannot find your order form, just let me know and I will send home a new one.:)
Tiger Pride Assembly- Our first Tiger Pride Assembly of the year is Friday the 30th! Parents are more than welcome to come attend the assembly and when the assembly is over, you can follow our class to the room and take your child home right after the assembly. It doesn't count against their attendance on Tiger Pride Assembly days. :) I just ask that you let me know you are taking your child so I know where everyone is.:)
Reading Logs- I am so proud of the kiddos who have been reading a lot and already turned in their first reading log! Great job readers! I am keeping track of who turns in the log for the month and will send home the free pizza coupon at the end of the month.
Reading-I have been giving the kids their reading assessments this week and will continue next week. The following week we will be starting our guided reading groups. I cannot wait to start working with the small groups and watch them skyrocket as readers!
Writing- Wowser! These kids can write! I am so proud of how they are bringing their characters to life with talking, moving, and today we learned about...ELLIPSES!!! Pretty exciting stuff going on in writing in first grade!
Math- I can tell a lot of the kids have been practicing their doubles facts at home! That is awesome and it is really helping with our math concept of doubles plus one or two. We will be taking the doubles assessment next Friday.
The lessons we completed with the doubles plus one or two concept are going home today. The kids are given an addition problem like 2+3= and need to know they can use the doubles fact of 2+2 then just add 1 more to get the answer to 2+3. They are also given problems like 2+4= and will need to remember to use the doubles fact 2+2 and just add 2 more to get the answer. This seems like a lot of steps, but the curriculum is trying to give the kids multiple strategies to help them solve addition problems easier.
WEE Food Drive-Thank you for ALL of the donations! You guys ROCK!
Science- We made applesauce this week and it was really good! We also learned a lot about apples along with Johnny Appleseed. Next week we will start learning about the scientific process.
