Welcome back! It was so nice seeing all of the kids come in yesterday. I really missed them over the break and am excited to start off the new year with them. We have been reviewing school and class expectations today and yesterday just to get back into the hang of school.:)
Important message about coats and recess- In the past the kids have been able to go to the nurse to get a coat if they forget their coats on cold days, but there are not coats for this purpose anymore so if your child comes to school on a cold day and does not bring a coat teachers have been told that those children will have to stay inside for recess. I know you are all very good about sending your child in with a coat, but this is something new we were told to communicate to our parents. It would be very helpful if you could always make sure your child wears their coat to school or even brings it in his or her backpack to ensure they get to go outside and play.
Snacks for next week are below. I want to thank all of you for your support with bringing in snacks for these wonderful kiddos!
This week's snack helpers are:
Mon.-Jaxon
Tues.-Mackenzie
Wed.- Bonnie Claire
Thurs.- Shelby
Fri.- Addison
Math: Unit 8 is working with place value and knowing that in the number 17 the 1 is a ten and the 7 is ones. Also knowing there is 1 ten and 7 ones in the number 17.
Another skill they will be using is making groups of tens and counting them which is when the ability to count by tens is important. Luckily our last unit prepared us for this, but practicing counting by tens would be very helpful for your child.
Writing Our unit we will be working on this quarter is opinion writing. We will first be learning the difference between facts and opinions and then using that skill to help us with our opinion writing.
Reading: Please remember to have your child read nightly. Even 5-10 minutes of reading nightly is beneficial.
