I would like to thank all of the parents who were able to attend the parent orientation night. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Lunch With Grandparents: Look in your child’s take home folder for the orange invitation for grandparents to come eat lunch with their grandchildren and then go to the book fair. The orange paper has very important information on it so please be sure to thoroughly read it. There must be an RSVP for this day by the grandparents using this sheet. This will take place on September 12th. The form must be turned in by September 7th.
Spelling Homework –I will be sending home your child’s spelling homework on Tuesday because we don’t have school on Monday.
Next Week’s Spelling Words: We will be working with short i words.

Spelling Tests: I do want to explain how the spelling tests are graded. It is important for the kids to write their letters correctly instead of backwards. Their name tags have the alphabet on them for the kids to be able to use as a resource to double check their letters. I will also remind them to double check their letters for reversals and capital letters before I collect the tests. I stress the importance of not writing capital letters in these words. They are words that need to be written with lower case letters unless they are at the beginning of a sentence. We really stress this in second grade. I have decided to give them another week of practice with their spelling test with writing letters backwards and capital letters. My goal is for them to feel success and that comes with practice. I will let you know before I start taking points off for those things.
Reading: Next week we are going to be starting work on writing for a reading station. This is a great way to help the students become stronger writers. They will be practicing building their stamina for writing and continue building the stamina for read to self.
Math: Next week we will be focusing on math facts fluency. It would benefit your child to practice addition facts at home like 2+3=5 and other basic addition facts.
