The field trip to KSPR 33 was a blast! Thank you again to everyone who had the opportunity to come enjoy it with us! I am so proud of how well the kids did because they had to be really quiet through most of the field trip. They did AMAZING!
Math- We will be practicing more word story problems next week. An example of the word story problem we will be working on is :
Mrs. Whisler had some bubble gum. Mrs. Carter gave her 15 more pieces of gum. Then Mrs. Whisler had 36 pieces of gum. How many pieces of gum did Mrs. Whisler have to start?
Practicing word story problems like this at home would be very beneficial.
We will be taking an assessment on these types of word story problems next week.
Also, please practice telling time and counting money with your child. We will also be practicing that next week.
Reading- We will be doing a unit on Poetry starting next week.
Writing- The kids are researching their topics and coming up with ways to present their information for our Genius Hour presentation night.
Science- Our next unit is on animal life cycles.
Word Work Words- The Word Work words for next week are:
We will continue working on short vowel sound spelling patterns and long vowel sound spelling patterns in words this week.
Genius Hour:
Our classes have been working hard on researching a topic they are passionate about. Students brainstormed topics that they were interested in, came up with driving questions, and are researching these questions. The kids will create a poster, model, or presentation. We will share expectations and give deadlines throughout. The kids are extremely excited to participate in genius hour and researching what they are passionate about!
Ways you can help:
Thank you for your time and support! We are excited to see what our students will be able to create and present their findings! Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.

Ways you can help:
- Support your child with their research. If they want to do more research at home, we encourage them to do so with a parent supervision. This research will be a great time for you to learn right alongside your child! Feel free to print out research or take notes on paper and send in. We have great research sites on our class blogs and/or the library website.
- Send in supplies for models or posters. We will be making our displays, presentations, dioramas, etc at school. If your child needs specific supplies such as Play-Doh, pipe cleaners, etc. and you are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Dollar Tree has tri-fold poster boards if you would like to send one in to support this project. We are still in the research phase, so supplies will be needed after our research is complete.
- Participate in our Genius Fair. On Tuesday, May 10th from 6:30-7:30 pm, Willard North and Willard East will come together to share our creativity with each other. We will meet at Willard North cafeteria and present our Genius Hour projects for our family and friends.
Thank you for your time and support! We are excited to see what our students will be able to create and present their findings! Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.
