Hello parents!
This is our official first updated blog post for the year. This first full week of school has flown by! The kids have been working really hard on learning the classroom expectations and we have been building our own Leader in Me culture in our classroom. We are deciding together what we want our room to be like. It isn't just my opinion that counts. The kids have a lot of say in this and I am loving it!
We will be learning sight words each week. There will not be a test each week on them, but at the end of the quarter we will be assessed on how many of those words the kids can read. Please practice them at home and we will be working on them at school as well. Next week's words are :
Math- The math packets should be coming home daily. The most beneficial thing you can do to help your child is have him or her explain to you how we did the problems in the packet.
If your child is absent, I will send the math packet home with them to be completed and returned back to school. I don't want them falling behind because this math is fast paced.
Class Dojo- I use Class Dojo for almost everything. I love how we can easily communicate with it. Your child has a behavior chart in their take home folder that they write their daily points on it. You can also see those points on the app or website. The behavior chart also has a spot for the parent to sign on Friday. If you have signed it, the kids get a point on Monday. :)
Positive Dojo points - I give the kids Dojo dollars for each positive point they earn. They get to spend those dollars on special things in the classroom like Stinky Feet(They don't have to wear shoes in the classroom), Show and Tell (It has to be able to fit in their backpack), Bring a stuffed animal to school, or a hat day.
Negative Dojo points -they have walk a lap at recess for each point lost. I also have think sheets the kids will be completing if they lose points. These are just to make them think about what they did and what they can do to correct that behavior.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding Class Dojo.
Going home- Please remember to call the office if your child is going home a different way than normal. We ask you to call the office just in case I have a substitute that day and don't get the message in Dojo or email until after school. This will help us get your child to the correct place after school.
Snack- I will be sending out a September snack calendar next week. I will also post it on Class Dojo. If you cannot send in a snack that day it would be very helpful if you could contact me so other arrangements can be made. :) I also have the kids bring in a snack on their birthdays so they can bring their birthday treat that day. This is the first year in all of my teaching that I have 5 kids with the same birthday! I will make sure they get to bring in a snack at least on the week of their birthday. :) Summer birthdays will have a designated day for us to celebrate their birthdays too.:)
I hope you all have a great weekend!!
Upcoming Dates:
Sept. 1- No School- Teacher Work Day
Sept. 5-No School- Labor Day
