Happy Thursday!! Don't forget that the students do not have school tomorrow or Monday.
Math- We are wrapping up the first unit in math next week and taking the first assessment. I will be sending home a study guide for you and your child to practice together. This is not mandatory, but it is a great way to help your child better prepare for this first unit. As I mentioned last week, this first unit is extremely difficult.
Writing- This week we have been writing our small moment stories. It has been kind of hard for some of the kids to remember we are writing about a time we did something. It doesn't have to be big like a vacation they took somewhere, it can be what they did after school or in the morning before school. We are going to be continuing working on these stories the rest of this quarter.
Reading- In our morning reading block we are practicing our daily 5 (reading/writing stations) routines and building our stamina as readers and writers. This week we focused on building our reading stamina. Next week we are adding the writing portion to our stations.
Social Studies- We are starting our unit on Community Helpers. If you have a job you think the kids would like to learn more about and would be interested in sharing information about it, please contact me and we will see about having you come in to talk to the first grade kiddos about your job.:)

Parent Lighthouse Team- You will be receiving an email in the next few weeks with a survey about a new Parent Lighthouse Team we are creating. This is a Leader in Me version of a PTO and gives parents the opportunity to be more involved in the school, which will be amazing! We are asking parents to complete it by Sept. 17 so we can see who is interested and at what level they are able to participate in this team.
Upcoming Events:
Aug. 31- No School
Sept. 3- No School
Sept. 21- Board Approved a half day for students to celebrate homecoming as a community!
Sept. 28-First Tiger Pride at 2:30- Parents are ALWAYS welcome to come and join us!:)
