Math- Next week we will be focusing a lot on coins.  We will be identifying each coin along with the value of the coins.  This is a skill we will continue to work on through the year.

Reading- I am really proud of the students and how they are building their stamina in reading!  So far we have been practicing Read to Self, Work on Writing, and next week I am introducing Read to Someone.  I know the kids are going to LOVE this station!

Writing- Next week in writing we are going to continue working on our narrative writing using ideas from our own experiences.  We will also be learning about good beginnings and endings for our narrative writing.

Science- We are going to be starting our scientific inquiry unit next week.  The kids are going to really enjoy this unit because they will become scientists and do experiments.

Word Work Words- We will not have any new word work words because of the short week.
Upcoming Events:
Sept. 4 - No School
Sept. 7 - No School
Sept. 9 - 6:00 is the PTO kick-off meeting
Sept. 25- 2:30 is the first Tiger Pride Assembly- We'd love to see you here!

Happy Friday!  This week flew by so fast.

Math- We took an assessment in math this week and will continue taking it next week. This is not an assessment the kids need to prepare for.  This assessment is a tool for the teachers to help us decide where to lead our instruction.
Our focus in math next week will be addition and subtraction story problems along with the introduction of money.

Reading- This week I introduced the first of the Daily 5 reading stations which is Read to Self.  Next week I will be introducing Work on Writing to the kids.  We are also learning some of the CAFE skills which are skills that give the students comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary skills to use as they read.

Writing- We worked on brainstorming ideas to write about and next week we are going to be starting writing narrative stories about experiences in our lives.  The kids are also going to be adding details to their stories to make them pop out at the reader.

Social Studies- This week we talked about what teamwork is and how to be a good classmate.  We will continue these lessons next week.

Word Work Words- of, into, now, this, there

Off to a Great Start!

What a wonderful first two days of school!  I have really enjoyed getting to know the kids and cannot wait to watch them grow as the year progresses.

Remember to send back any notes from Meet the Teacher Night that were in the green “Take Home Folder”. Also check this folder every night and return it to school every day.

T-shirt orders are due Mon. August 24. The shirts are not free for students this year. They are $5 .

August 25 is individual picture day. Look for more information to come home soon.

Tonight you should find a note about a “Me Bag” that they kids are going to be able to bring to school so we can learn more about one another.

I will be sending home your child's lunch pin number on Monday.  The kids will start typing in their number during lunch in a couple of weeks so this is for you to help them memorize their number.

Monday will be the day our class starts Dojo for behavior tracking.  You will find the Dojo points behavior chart in your child's Take Home Folder on Monday. There is a box for you to sign every Friday.  There is also information regarding Class Dojo in your Flip book that was in your Meet the Teacher papers.

Thanks so much to those of you who have donated items for our classroom. It is appreciated very much!

Have a great weekend!
