Field Trip- Our field trip to KSPR is next Tuesday, April 12th. We will be leaving school at 9:45. Once at KSPR we will be given a tour and then Lindsay Slater will give us presentation about weather.
When we return to school we will eat our sack lunches. If you signed up to send in a sack lunch from home, please remember to do so. The kitchen will only be making enough sack lunches for the kiddos who signed up for one.
As stated on the permission slip letter, we will only have room on the bus for 6 parents. This is due to limited space on our buses. The first 6 parents that sent permission forms back got first dibs on riding the bus. If you were one of those parents, I have let you know. All other parents will have to meet us at KSPR. You are more than welcome to meet us at school and follow the buses. We usually don't have so many parents interested in going on the field trip, but this is great!
One last thing, we respectfully ask that siblings not come along on the field trip. There is limited space at KSPR and we need to ensure that there is plenty of room for students, parents, and staff.
Math- We completed our assessment in math and now we are working on word story problems. An example of the word story problems we are working on is:
John has 80 cents. He buys a Ring Pop for 25 cents. Then his mom gives him 15 cents more. How much money does he have now?
Practicing these at home would be very beneficial. The kids need to focus on what the word problem is saying so they can properly answer the problem.
Reading- We will continue to focus on reading and comprehending non-fiction text.
Writing- This week we discussed the difference between thick questions and thin questions. Thick questions take a lot of thought and cannot be answered with a simple answer. The kids are making their proposals about their topics today and coming up with some thick questions about their topics. Next week they will be researching their topics.
Science- We will be continuing our our government unit.
Word Work Words- The Word Work words for next week are:
We will be working on short vowel sound spelling patterns and long vowel sound spelling patterns in words this week.
Upcoming Events:
April 12- 2nd Grade Field Trip
April 29- Tiger Pride Assembly at 2:30
May 13- Tiger Pride Assembly at 2:30
May 5- Field Day- Time TBD
May 20- Last Day of School
